If you're a filmmaker and unless you've been living under a rock, the ongoing anticipation of Canon's new R5 & R6 mirrorless cameras have been the talk of the industry. We wanted to take a closer look at comparing the Canon R6 vs. R5 as far as the features and specs of both cameras and help you decide which camera is right for you.

Canon R6 Mirrorless Specs How similar will the Canon EOS R6 be to the EOS R5?

Rumors floating around have suggested that the Canon EOS R6 will be very close to the EOS R5, for both video and stills. Yes, it will not be able to shoot 8K like the EOS R5, but will include in-body image stabilization, oversampled 5K and 10-bit video. So after looking at these specs and the needs of most indie filmmakers, the R6 may be the camera for you. If you read or watched our review on the Z-Cam F8 camera, we discuss while 8K is great for post editing flexibility for reframing, repositioning and zooming, the work flow, storage space needed and file sizes are often not a viable option. So the first question you need to ask is "Do I really need 8K"?

As a reminder, the most recent reports claim that the Canon EOS R6 will feature a 20MP full-frame CMOS sensor, IBIS, 12fps mechanical/20fps electronic maximum shooting speed, dual SD card slots, oversampled 5K, 4K/60p and 1080/120p video recording, and an AF system identical to the more advanced EOS R5. Now remember we comparing the Canon R6 vs. R5 for those who might be on the fence deciding which one they might be interested in. In the end with any major camera purchase, you need to think about what "Your" needs are and not the nice to have features, like 8K. One feature that has always enticed us and many filmmakers is 4K @ 60fps. Which of course allows you to shoot and slow down for some fantastic cinematic footage. From the leaked images, we feel the camera is really comparable in design and very similar to the Canon 6D MKII, with the top dial, flip screen, rounded edge design and just an overall DSLR look and feel.
