Canon has announced that the 1DX Mark III is officially in development. We just listed the Canon 1DX Mark II as one of our top used camera buys for 2019 - you can read about it here. The flagship Canon DSLR has long been touted as an excellent sports and wildlife photographer's camera. One of the main reasons for this is the staggering speed and high image quality attainable with the Canon 1DX Camera. UPDATED RELEASE INFO NOW AVAILABLE.

The Canon 1DX Mark III will have an updated CMOS sensor and DIGIC processor. But we're most excited about the 4K 10-bit internal video recording with 4:2:2 color sampling. Among the other improvements are a more advanced Dual Pixel autofocus system, dual CFExpress card slots, and improved battery life. As mentioned, speed has long been a major selling point for the 1DX, and the Mark III offers improvements here as well. You will now be able to shoot 16 fps in the viewfinder, and up to 20 fps during live view in the LCD. It's also being reported that the Mark III will have improved transfer speed with ethernet and WFT connection using WFT-E9. This is the next step from the WFT-E8 used in the Mark II. Canon also says there will be improved user interfaces and sharper autofocus controls. Other features include a sturdy magnesium body, illuminated buttons, and an LP-E19 battery. Canon appears to have listened to their customers when it comes to a true hybrid stills/video camera. The improvements to the video specs on this camera make it very intriguing. The 1DX Mark III will be the first Canon "non-cine" camera to offer a log color profile. This opens up a world of video possibilities and color grading options, while retaining (and improving) many of the still photo features. The dual CF Express Card slots and 4K60 mean we should also be seeing improvements in data rates as well. Looking to upgrade to the new Canon 1DX MKIII upon it's release? Canon hasn't announced an anticipated price point or release date, but we think it's safe to say we'll be seeing these sometime in 2020, hopefully in time for NAB (early April). We’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we hear more about this new camera announcement!
