Leaks of the brand new highly anticipated DJI Mavic Pro 3 have been hitting social media. Let’s take a look at what’s to come when DJI officially releases the new Mavic Pro 3 drone on Nov 5, 2021.
It’s been three years since DJI released the Mavic 2 Pro and from the day I got it, I was thoroughly impressed. That drone was a real workhorse and helped me produce some amazing shots, including this shot from Baltimore harbor which I ended up selling to a company for a promotional video for a decent amount of money. In fact, that was the first drone footage I sold.
The Mavic 2 Pro with the Hasselblad sensor just produces some amazing images. And you can now pick up a used Mavic 2 Pro for as low as around $1300 often with the fly more combo and extras like ND filters, etc. In fact, check out Joey Helm’s store as he is selling his which he flew over a Volcano in Iceland for a video that went viral.
So what are the leaks showing us as far as the specs on the new Mavic Pro 3? Well, to start off, the company will be releasing two models, the Mavic 3 and the 3 Cine. Both models sport dual cameras, one wide and one telephoto. You heard that right and yes, it’s a first for any drone. The manual that has been leaked specifically shows a wide-angle Micro Four Thirds sensor and a telephoto 1/2″ sensor. The main camera features a large 4/3” sensor with 20 MP resolution, f/2.8 aperture, and 84° field of view. This is a welcome upgrade over the DJI Mavic 2 Pro, which had a 1” sensor.
Here’s where the differences between the two models come into play. The Cine drone, as indicated by the name, will boast a few more features more adept for video shoots. It will support ProRes, the video codec that has recently made its way into the iPhones. Another difference is the amount of internal storage. The Cine comes equipped with 1TB of internal storage while the Mavic 3 packs 8GB. Both models will support a MicroSD slot for 2TB of additional storage.
What kind of battery life do the new models pack? From the first look, it appears as though both models will be powered by a 5,000 mAh (77 Whr) battery that gives it up to 46 minutes of flight time. As a comparison, the Mavic 2 Pro only had a flight time of 31 minutes.
